Out of the editorial:
Since the beginning of April this year, Tel Aviv
has been celebrating its 100th anniversary. The history of this city has been
summarised, reflected upon and (critically) discussed during 2009 in over 400
different events in this Israeli city and other numerous places outside of Israel.
During these events not only was the history of Tel Aviv discussed but also its
presence and in particular its future. For this reason this year’s edition of
PaRDeS has chosen 100th anniversary of Tel Aviv / 100 Jahre Tel Aviv
as its focus. Israelis scholars, some in Tel Aviv (at times) and others in
other countries, approach the subject of the history and present of Israel’s
biggest city from very different perspectives and from different areas of expertise.
