The 2026 conference proceedings of the German Society for Technology Education (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Bildung) bring together current research contributions on technology education didactics. Under the theme “General Technological Education between Cultural Transmission and Innovation,” current discourses in technology education research and practice are brought together.
The first thematic section addresses changes in educational practice and understandings of technology, including education for sustainable development, a teaching-learning lab for inclusive technology education, the connection between making-based approaches and technology education, invention as a technical development process, the relationship between technology and politics, and technical-creative action.
The second section deals with the transmission of existing technical knowledge, for example through programming animations, children’s conceptions of gear mechanisms, the cultural dimension of industrial architecture using a case example, and the digitization of analog audio data.
A third thematic complex addresses questions of teacher professionalization, including perception training for teachers without subject-specific qualifications, technical content in general/interdisciplinary science education (Sachunterricht), graduated learning offerings, the analysis of technology textbooks, core engineering practices, and structural-analytical lesson planning. A further contribution from neighboring disciplines reports on a STEM support program for high-achieving students.
The volume thus offers a broad overview of current empirical and theoretical approaches in technology education didactics and is aimed at researchers, educators, and students in the field.
